The Jefferson County Deputy Sheriff's Civil Service Commission conducts a written competitive civil service examination and physical agility testing for the position of Deputy Sheriff (Entry Level). These tests establish the eligibility list from which vacancies in the law enforcement division of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office will be filled. Dates and locations for the tests will be advertised on this website. Candidates wishing to be considered for Veteran Preference Points must provide a copy of their DD Form 214 (Military Discharge). Certified law enforcement officers must present proper identification on the date of the testings. All interested persons who are interested in employment with the Sheriff's Department may obtain and file a completed application form with the Sheriff’s Office. Application forms may be obtained from the Sheriff's Office at 102 Industrial Blvd. Suite 100, Kearneysville, WV 25430. (Business hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.) Future dates for entrance level testing will be published on this site. Individuals who have applications already on file will be notified by mail as to when the next testing date has been scheduled. Qualifications:
Physical Agility Testing: Candidates must be able to perform 27 sit-ups in one minute; 18 push-ups in one minute; and a 1.5-mile run in 15 minutes and 20 seconds. (West Virginia Legislative Rules 149-2-8.6 Physical Agility Standards) Benefits:
